I sent this photo to our family chat on Monday, and one of our daughters said, “That is a really amazing photo. I hope you’re putting that up on your blog.”
My quick response was, “What as? Burnt dreams?” Wow. Yeah. That was caustic. Our daughter corrected me. “Starting over.”, she wrote back. (Families are great for being loving and honest with us. I am so thankful God put this young woman on my team!)
Almost two years ago, we left our lovely house, with sparkles in our eyes, and an amazing floor plan for our bus conversion tiny home.
I don’t know how it is at your abode, but my husband almost couldn’t keep up with my constantly changing furniture arrangements and room swaps when we had a house… Just try to imagine how this could be applied to 216 square feet of living space.
In the short 22 months of living in this bus conversion, we have changed: our kitchen table, three times; our living room couch, three times; our bed placement, four times; and our bathtub and commode, twice.
I have discussed moving our kitchen from the front of the bus to the back, and the bedroom and bathroom to the front. Strangely, my husband just stood in shocked awe at that suggestion, and it did not take place...not yet, anyway. 😉
Almost two years ago, we left our lovely house, with sparkles in our eyes, and an amazing life plan including our bus conversion tiny home.
Since then, my husband had an accident rendering him blind in one eye, I closed my home health care business, we have been grounded because of mechanical issues, and we have been stuck in mud for months…
We decided to make a change in plans by parking on leased acreage. So maybe we won’t travel as much as we originally thought. Instead, we will homestead!
But, once on the acreage, although we purposed to dig our own well, we did not reach water. Although we purposed to build our own storage shed using only pallets… oh my goodness... it started out difficult but fun, and that is all I will say on that subject.
We are working on starting over again. No need to allow discouragement or bitterness. Just as changing the floor plan for efficiency’s sake made life easier and more pleasant inside our home, so can changing life plans better our life situation.
And we are definitely learning to be flexible! That is a good trait… We never know what life may bring our way!
Because I CAN have faith that God is in control of my life, I do not have to be overcome with worry of failure from decisions like these.
Life could be fun and exciting, or it can be nerve-wracking.
My part, my responsibility, is in my attitude -- which you may have noticed from my harsh comment near the beginning of this post, was in need of starting over again.
I needed a fresh look, and not just Monday past. I need a constant reminder to trust God! Start over, with peace.
“Trusting Me (Jesus), you will be unshakeable and assured, deeply at peace. In this world you will continue to experience difficulties. But take heart! I’ve conquered the world.” John 16:33 the Message
